Position Description

The University of Pennsylvania, School of Veterinary Medicine, Department of Clinical Sciences & Advanced Medicine, Section of Medicine invites qualified individuals to apply for an open faculty position in the Tenure Track (TT) or Clinician Educator (CE) track in Small Animal Internal Medicine at the rank of Assistant, Associate or Full Professor. Applications are being accepted immediately. Though negotiable, the anticipated start date of the position is January, 2018. The successful candidate is expected to be an exemplary teacher and to excel as an academic leader in the general field of internal medicine, with an area of special clinical and research focus. Qualified applicants having any area of sub-specialty will be considered, but individuals with an interest in infectious disease or nephrology are particularly encouraged to apply. Clinician Educators in Medicine have up to 67% clinical commitment. Primary responsibilities include clinical and didactic teaching of veterinary students, clinical service in the Small Animal Hospital, and a productive clinical or translational research program that will lead to advances in their sub-specialty area of interest. Tenure Track applicants have up to 25% clinical commitment and must have a strong track record of external research funding with partial salary recovery.

The Section of Medicine includes seven (ACVIM-Small Animal Internal Medicine) board-certified internists in direct support of the program. There are currently twelve residents enrolled in the residency training program. More than thirty Diplomates of multiple American certifying Colleges support the Section of Medicine. Adjacent to the veterinary hospital are two world-class biomedical hospitals, the Perelman School of Medicine and the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia, both of which provide excellent opportunities for collaboration with investigators that have common interests (www.upenn.edu/life-at-penn).

Candidates must have a veterinary degree, residency training in Small Animal Internal Medicine, and be board certified by the American or European College of Veterinary Internal Medicine (Specialty of Small Animal Internal Medicine). Salary will be commensurate with professional and academic credentials and experience.
